CSPA Christmas Extra, December 18, 2008 -- www.calsport.org

Is CSPA on your
Holiday gift list?

Happy Holidays! First, we'd like to thank you for continuing to receive our newsletter. It's been a work in progress as is our website in its first year. As part of your signing up on our mailing list, we understand that you don't want to be bugged continuously for donations. We've tried to keep the solicitations down and the fishing and environmental news foremost including what CSPA is doing to improve California's fisheries.

However, CSPA, like any other organization that hopes to accomplish good things, needs funds to get the work done. That's why we're sending you this Christmas greeting and, at the same time asking that you put us on your Holiday gift list. Our goals for 2009 are far greater than any of those in CSPA's past. We have entered into two monumental lawsuits, the first as plaintiffs suing to end wasteful delta pumping, the second, as interveners defending anglers' interests in the current "striped bass" lawsuit.

We will continue to pursue our efforts at cleaning up California's waterways. We're seeking clean up of over 40 agricultural and municipal pollution sources and in the process of filing comments on another 17, We have two outstanding law suits where our negotiations on these sources have failed to bring about the goal of clean water. Our participation and input at FERC hearings will continue to ensure water for fish. We will continue our input and opposition to plans that would actually harm the waterways and fisheries of California including fish harming diversions and the delta draining ideas included in the Delta Vision and Bay Delta Conservation Plan..

We recently reestablished our long standing relationship with the Northern California Council of the Federation of Fly Fishers and have already contributed insight at several meetings. We work continuously with other organizations like the California Striped Bass Association, and the California Water Impact Network, CalTrout, and Trout Unlimited on a regular basis and will work with and assist these and other organizations in the 2009 year.

A laundry list of what CSPA is currently involved with would reach over two pages with a single line devoted to each item. I could go on but I'm sure you're aware of how important CSPA's work is or you wouldn't be a subscriber.

In order that CSPA continue its work, we ask you to take the one step that will keep us at the front, battling the assault on California's fisheries. That step is, if you're not already a member,  to join CSPA for 2009. Memberships begin at $30 for the entire year. Memberships of $50 or more are gifted with "thank you" premiums.

In addition, your name or the name of your organization or business is included on our "Donor Honor Roll" with a link to your website if an organization or company. The first premiums will be sent out this Friday, December 19th and the 2009 "Donor Honor Roll" will be posted on our website Christmas morning.

CSPA would be honored to see your name underneath our "Christmas tree" on Christmas day.

You can become a member by sending in a snail mail membership form or by instant access through PayPal. You do not need to be a Pay Pal member to contribute electronically.

Finally, we at CSPA would like to wish you and yours the VERY BEST for the holiday season. Merry Christmas, Happy Chanukah, and Happy New Year from the Board of Directors, and the Advisory Board of CSPA.
