CSPA concerned about Central Valley Regional Board's selection of waters for the List of Impaired Water Bodies
March 15, 2009 -- Citing concerns regarding selenium, electrical conductivity, and diazinon, CSPA's Executive Director, Bill Jennings, directed a letter to the board asking that a number of waterways be added to the list and that additional criteria be used to determine whether others should be added to the list as well. The 303d list required under the Clean Water Act currently adds over 440 additional waterway/pollutant combinations raising the total number of threatened waterways to over 760 and includes the San Joaquin, Sacramento, American, Stanislaus, Pitt, Merced, Yuba, Tuolumne and Feather Rivers as well as many other bodies of water. In the letter Jennings states that the list is, "A graphic reminder of the seriously degraded state of Central Valley waterways." and Jennings continues, "As additional data is collected from previously unmonitored waters, the list of impaired waterways is likely to continue to expand."
