BUREAU OF RECLAMATION SUBMITS COMMENTS ON DRAFT ORDER TO REVOKE WATER RIGHTS FOR AUBURN DAM
November 26, 2008 -- The Bureau of Reclamation has submitted its comments on the State Water Resources Control Board's draft order to revoke the water rights for Auburn Dam. The Bureau's comments on the draft order are as convoluted and self-contradictory as was the Bureau's testimony during the July hearing on the Auburn water rights revocation.
However, there is one moment of clarity in the Bureau's response: "Contrary to assertions made at the hearing by the California Sportfishing Protection Alliance and Friends of the River, Reclamation is not requesting that the Board apply a different set of rules and regulations to the Federal Government."
In no small measure, the Bureau's comments are a testimonial to the effectiveness of CSPA in bringing this sorry chapter in California water rights history to a close. Perhaps it is due to the change in administration, but for once, CSPA finds itself in complete agreement with a policy decision made by the Bureau.
