CSPA and other NGO groups requests fish ladder and screens at Hendricks Dam on West Feather River

By Chris Shutes, FERC Projects Director
July 29, 2008.-- The United States Forest Service failed to require a fish screen and a fish ladder at the Hendricks Diversion Dam on the West Branch Feather River, when the Forest Service filed its preliminary terms and conditions for the DeSabla - Centerville Hydroelectric Project on June 27, 2008.

A July 29, 2008 filing by "Conservation Groups (Including CSPA)" recommends that the Forest Service mandate a screen and ladder at this site forthwith, rather than dither with studies related to the issue for up to ten years. CSPA considers a screen and ladder at Hendricks Diversion Dam the single most important action PG&E can take to improve the West Branch Feather River fishery, short of decommissioning its destructive Miocene Project downstream from Hendricks. Unfortunately, the Miocene Project is a separate project that, because of its size, never needs to be relicensed.
