"The NRDC water plan is the only proposal presented so far that includes the recovery of salmon. In addition to recovering salmon, it shows how all the other state's foreseeable water needs can be met using recycling, conservation, and groundwater management."

Positive Moves for Salmon Recovery

By Dick Pool

July 24, 2008. (San Francisco) Today, the possibility that Central Valley salmon can be recovered took a potential step forward. The Natural Resources Defense Council, PCFFA and Water4Fish held a press conference at Fishermen's Wharf to launch a new proposed state water plan developed by NRDC. The plan and the proposal for salmon recovery is covered in a comprehensive 36 page document titled "Fish Out of Water". This document may be the best analysis of Central Valley salmon and their water needs ever assembled. You can link to it at www.nrdc.org/water/conservation/salmon/contents.asp

You can also go to the attached NRDC press release and link from there.

The press conference was well attended. TV stations that were present included Channel 2 (FOX), Channel 5 (CBS) Channel 7 (ABC) and Channel 11 (NBC). They will all be running the story. I am attaching the press release and supporting statements from the congressional offices of Matsui, McNerney, Miller, Tauscher, and Thompson. A statement from Assembly members Wolk and Huffman is also attached.

The NRDC water plan is the only proposal presented so far that includes the recovery of salmon. In addition to recovering salmon, it shows how all the other state's foreseeable water needs can be met using recycling, conservation, and groundwater management. The report is well worth reading. It is also very worthy of our continuing support and endorsement.
