CSPA's John Beuttler to testify at Senate
NR&W Committee hearing on AB 1806
June 15, 2008. John
Beuttler, CSPA's Conservation Director will head up a veteran
group of fisheries organizations testifying before the Senate
Natural Resources and Water Committee hearing for AB 1806 on
June 24th. In addition to Beuttler, Dick Pool will speak, representing
Water 4 Fish, John Ryzanych will testify for Allied Fishing
Groups and Gary Adams will speak for the California
Striped Bass Association.
AB1806 is important
for two reasons, it addresses the issue of dealing with fishery
disaster rescues and even more important, the bill provides full
mitigation for the federal and state water projects pumping of
massive amounts of water south.
Opposition to the
bill's passage is anticipated from the various water agencies
that would be forced to pay their fair share for losses suffered
at the hands of the pumps and for the losses to fish populations
by the diversion of massive amounts of delta water. agencies
have had to pay very little in the past for the consequences of
the massive increases in delta exports over the past five years.
CSPA has called for
a major effort to support this bill in the form of a letter
writing campaign. In CSPA Advisory
6-4-08, sample letters were provided along with the
addresses, fax numbers and e-mail addresses of all of the
senators on the committee.
In addition to the
letter campaign, CSPA has asked those supportive of the bill to
attend the hearing and speak during the time allowed for public
comments. The hearing will take place on June 24th, 9:30am, Room
112 at the capitol.
