to be keynote speaker
Recreational Fishing Alliance Sponsors Randy Fry Awards
Dinner June 14 in San Rafael

May 28, 2008. The Recreational Fishing Alliance will
sponsor the Randy Fry Awards Dinner, Saturday June 14th
at the Marin Rod and Gun Club in San Rafael. The doors
open with a no-host bar at 4 p.m. and the festivities
include an auction, raffle and speakers. Requested
donation $45 for a BBQ Tri Tip dinner with all the
fixin's. Dinner served at 6 p.m.
John Beuttler, conservation director of the
California Sportfishing Protection Alliance and board
member of the Northern California Chapter of the RFA,
will be the keynote speaker. The fundraising event will
fall on the day before Father's Day. We encourage all
Dads to take advantage of your home pass and bring the
whole family to the dinner. The focus is on having fun
with our family and friends and raising money for the
future of our fisheries.
RFA's accomplishments include tightening loopholes in
poaching laws, stopping crab pot theft for recreational
fishermen and maintaining a shore based angling and
diving exemption from rockfishing closures. The RFA
provides consistent leadership and representation for
saltwater anglers and divers in Sacramento and
Washington, DC.
The RFA stopped the proposed Yelloweye Rockfish
Conservation Areas on the NorCal coast. They would have
made the situation worse. Along with the North Coast
Fishing Association, the RFA exposed FERC's wave energy
boondoggle that could close off large areas of the
ocean.
We're working to open deep water rockfishing through
the first-ever "exempted fishing permit"
program ever approved on the west coast.
The RFA is working on amending federal law to save
our fisheries. Our volunteers have made our presence
known. It's time we honored their contributions at the
